Dear Parents and Students,
We had an awesome day today! The students did a super job on the Promethean Board Activities and worked very well with their partners in the Cognitive Thinking Stations. I am so impressed with how well they are doing working together on their Robot Missions and I look forward to seeing how they code their robots for a secret mission in the next few weeks! They were very excited to work on Yadmodo Creative Thinking today as well. Homework: Logic Puzzles Have a great week, D. Searles

Dear Parents and Students,
First I apologize, but I noticed that my page did not save from last week. If you ever have questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via email. We started the day with Promethean Board Activities and they did awesome! We then moved into our Cognitive Thinking Stations and it was so much fun because we had the 2nd grade with us today and the students were able to teach them how to play all our cognitive thinking games. After specials, we worked on our Programming our Robots and the students had so much fun as now they have the Robots speaking and moving in many different directions. I was so proud of how they worked with our 2nd graders today. They ended the day by working with them on a time line activity. Homework: NONE--SPRING BREAK! Have a great week and I look forward to seeing you all after the break. Stay safe and have fun, Mrs. Searles

Dear Parents and Students,
We had an awesome day together! The students began work from the Challenge Wall before announcements and after announcements we went straight to the Promethean Board. They are getting stronger and stronger at solving this puzzles and it is awesome! Next, they chose their partners and went into their Cognitive Thinking Activities. We then began working with our robots and completing Mission 1 and Mission 2 and a couple of groups completed Mission 3. What I am seeing is that the students who have spent the most time on code.org are having the most success with the coding as code.org teaches them all about coding and they have to know this in order to program their robots. After lunch I gave them some extra time to work with the Robots to see if they could get through Mission 2 so that they can work on mission 3 and 4 next week. We ended the day in the laptop lab working on code.org. Homework: Work on code.org and go as far as stage#17. I know if there is an unplugged it skips you to the next stage, but go back and watch the unplugged.
If you have read this information, come see me for a special treat:)
Have a great week, D. Searles

Dear Parents and Students,
The students did such an awesome job today on our Promethean Board Activities. They are so committed to doing their best! Next, they worked on Cognitive Thinking skills in their stations and I must admit they are such competitive little people. Their favorite part of today was finding out who their partner was going to be for working with our Robots. Next, they partnered up and were able to go through the diagnostics and also begin some coding. One group completed all of Mission 1. We will have 10 prepared missions and they will independently figure these missions out which is why it is so important for them to continue their work on coding. I am not sure what the issues are but we are having some difficulties with the wifi at school and have not had very much computer coding time in class. Homework: Continue the coding at home and no further than lesson 15 and yes they can look at the unplugged lessons. Complete Logic puzzle and ladders. Have a great weekend, D. Searles

Dear Parents and Students,
Today the students were captivated by the presence of each other--needless to say a bit chatty. However, we managed to get things done. We started the day on the Promethean Board and completed all the activities. Next, we worked our way through the Cognitive Thinking Stations and I let them work with their best buddies. Our Affective Lesson was about Resilience and we drew a tree to help us understand where and how we can work on being more resilient. After lunch, we completed our Resilience drawing and then we headed to the laptop lab where we could work on coding. However, we met many challenges while trying to get online with code.org. After meeting with our computer technician, he seems to believe it was a network error here at school so I have told the students to try it at home and complete up to stage #15 for homework. Homework: Logic puzzles, ladders, balance, and complete up to stage #15 on code. Have a great week and I look forward to seeing them next week. D. Searles

What a great day and we really accomplished a great deal! We started our day by choosing things from the Challenge Wall and then after the news we jumped into our Promethean Board Activities. Next, we worked our way through the Cognitive Thinking Stations. We continued our Affective Lesson on Perseverance and then had fun learning about Percentages ratios and fractions by using valentine candy. We ended our day working in the computer lab. Have a great break and I look forwarded to seeing you all soon! D. Searles

Dear parents and students,
We had a super day today! The students started the day with their promethean Board Activities and really did well especially on Quiddler today! Next, we moved into our Cognitive Thinking Stations and they all worked very well with their partners. I try to step into a different stations each week to see how they are advancing and they are pretty proud of themselves and how quickly they are doing their sudoku puzzles these days! We then worked on an Affective Lesson which is about perseverance and how many times it is about making a choice to keep moving forward. We ended our novel today, The One and Only Ivan which we have thoroughly enjoyed. We wrapped up the day with the Computer Lab and worked on code.org. Homework: Ladders and Logic puzzles need to be completed. Have a great week! D. Searles

We had a great day together today! Many of the students are taking it upon themselves to go and get the Challenge Wall activities while waiting for the news to come on in the morning which shows me they are becoming independent learners! We worked through our Promethean Board Ativities in a flash today and then moved right into our Cognitive Thinking Stations. We continued this week with our Affective Lesson "FAIR". The students listened to a new story about what is fair and then they listened to different stories and had to determine if the story was fair or not. Next, they worked in groups. Each group received a scenario that they had to work out and present to the class by acting it out. The students then worked in their Cognitive Thinking Stations. We took the time to read the story The One and only Ivan as Ivan has arrived at a zoo and is no longer in his small cage. We wrapped up our day in the Laptop lab working on www.code.org. The students are excited because they will be given an opportunity to work with their own robots and code them. This website is teaching them how to code! They can go as far as Stage 5 and some of them need to go back into sections and correct them. Homework: They have new logic puzzles and they are becoming more challenging so if they get frustrated make them put it down for awhile and work on it a little at a time! We had a busy, but productive day! Have a great week, D. Searles

They were able to read some of their Novel the one and only Ivan. Today they went to the laptop lab and worked on their code.org which is teaching them how to code robots. We will be doing this the entire semester so that they will become coding experts. Homework: Complete Logic Puzzles. Have a great weekend, D. Searles

Dear Parents and Students,
We had an awesome day! We started our day out as normal with Promethean Board Activities and then we moved into our Cognitive Thinking Stations. Next, we discussed a new word called Algorithm. We used an Algorithm to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and there were many more steps than the students expected. We then put the word Algorithm to use and the students did an activity where they had to put together pictures of a paper plane building activity in order then pass their paper to a friend and that friend had to be able to follow it to create the paper plane! This was pretty cool:) After lunch, we went to the laptop lab and worked on our code.org and the students are learning that they have to type in the url correctly or they can't get in. I don't help so that they can independently do this at home when assigned so needless to say they can get frustrated. Homework: Students need to complete both a ladder and a logic puzzle. Have a great week, D. Searles
WELCOME BACK TO TARGET!!
Dear Parents and Students,
I am so very excited to begin our new semester and you are going to love it! We will be using code.org and learning how to code robots!
It was so nice to have us all back together again and to welcome our new student to the class. We started our day as normal with the Promethean Board Warm Ups and then we worked with a partner through Cognitive Thinking Stations. Next, we worked together as a group designing a specific solution to a simple problem by creating a type of robot to help us with our problem. Once we created our robots, Mrs. Searles announced our study of robots--needless to say we all screamed!
After lunch we had our read out loud of The One and Only Ivan and then we went to the computer lab to learn all about code.org and Edmodo which we will use to accomplish some homework assignments. Homework: Logic Puzzle and remember we are back together again next Tuesday! Have a great weekend, D. Searles
